Athletics News

Marysville School District Staff, Families, and Friends,

We are excited to share a few highlights and accomplishments from our athletic programs this past school year. It has been an incredible year filled with growth, success, and community pride.

Athletic Facilities Report

This year brought several positive developments to our athletic facilities. We successfully repaired the pool bulkhead in our aquatics center, allowing us to continue hosting home swim meets. Athletes also had the opportunity to compete on the newly constructed turf field at Quil Ceda Stadium, a major upgrade for our programs.

Marysville Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell High Schools proudly hosted multiple district-level competitions, including wrestling, football, and basketball crossover games. Most notably, for the first time in Marysville's history, we hosted the sub-district Track & Field meet, a landmark moment for our community led by MP’s very own track and field, Coach Kris Jensen.

Personnel

Our programs would not be possible without the incredible dedication of our coaches, and we are thrilled to recognize some of their outstanding achievements.

  • Coach Shawn Sanchey, Head Basketball Coach at Tulalip Heritage, was honored by the WIAA and received the prestigious ARMY Salute Award, among other recognitions.

  • Coach Marcus Haughian, Head Wrestling Coach at Marysville Pilchuck, was named 2A District Coach of the Year, in addition to receiving several other accolades.

  • Coach Travis Marsh, Head Golf Coach at Marysville Getchell, led his team to a historic second-place finish at Districts, which is the best in MG’s history.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our coaches, faculty, ASB, and booster organizations for their unwavering support and commitment to our student-athletes. Also, to those community partners who create opportunities for our district to continue to stay strong.

Looking Ahead to Next School Year

We are already looking forward to another successful year in athletics. Fall sports registration will open on May 27, 2025. For the 2025 – 2026 school year, middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in Cross Country (Fall) and Track & Field (Spring). We are equally excited about the upcoming sports seasons at our high schools.

As we await the start of the new school year, we encourage families to keep an eye out for summer youth camps that will be offered by our athletic programs. This is a great way for students to stay active and engaged.

A Fond Farewell

We would like to give a special thank you to Coach Mike Moran, who returned from retirement to coach the Marysville Getchell girls fastpitch team and guide his “Freshy Five.” His leadership helped four of his student-athletes earn athletic scholarships, opening doors for their futures and inspiring all of us.
