Dear Pinewood Families, We have had an amazing two weeks of getting to know you and our students! Thank you for being so flexible as we all learn together. Distance learning definitely has its challenges, but we are so grateful that unlike in past epidemics where school was just canceled, we are fortunate enough to continue to learn! Starting Monday, September 21, your student will follow the Student Daily Schedule that our District put out. You can access it on our Pinewood website as well. Students will Zoom with their teachers and classmates in the morning starting at 8:30 a.m. Their teacher will share the principal message with them just prior to their morning meeting and academics. In the afternoon, students will access their specialist class (Music, Library, Code or P.E.) via link in their Google Classroom. Each teacher will let their students know which specialist is on which day. On Fridays, K-2 students will have choice in which specialist portal they visit and what they would like to do that day. Each specialist has options for Fridays until we are able to hire an art teacher. Lastly, teachers are looking at data for guided reading groups and intervention groups. Once your teacher has their groups made, he or she will reach out to let you know what days your student will attend their guided reading group and/or intervention time. Myself and Ms. Gonzales welcome any questions and if you call the office we are available to you. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for partnering with us! Good News! Free Meals Program Extended The USDA recently passed a waiver to extend the free meals program into the fall. This extension means that our school district will be able to continue to provide free meals for all children ages 1 - 18 and those enrolled in our online and 18 - 21-year old programs. This good news significantly impacts our program and the ways we can provide meal services for children. We had recently shared that the free meal program had ended and adjusted the way that meals would be available. With the new extension, we are now working on developing our meal distribution procedure for the start of school and into the fall. It will be different from the spring and the summer in some ways, but most importantly, we will be able to continue to provide free meals for children. Please stay tuned for more information in the coming days.

Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your student behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Be a #HERO...Here Everyday Ready On Time!

We Love our Volunteers! However, due to an abundance of caution for the health of our students, as well as your health, visitors and volunteers will be welcomed back in our classrooms when the district gives approval, which is anticipated to be around March 22. So, until further notice volunteers and visitors will not be allowed in classrooms. Thank for your understanding.

Please join us on Thursday, February 6 from 6:00-7:30 for Pinewood’s Reading Night. There will be different activities – such as reading with rover – reading to real live dogs, book making sessions, read aloud stations and parents can learn about Imagine Learning and tips for reading at home. Activities will take place in the A, B, C, and D Units, the Art Room and the Library. We will have maps available for you that evening. Students may bring gently used books to school before reading night to exchange for other books. You may bring as many books as you like, but may take home up to five “new” books. We look forward to seeing you there!
