TO: Marysville School District Families, Staff, and Community

FR: Jason Thompson, Superintendent

As we begin to plan for the transition from Step 2 to Step 3 of our Reconnect Plan, the health and safety of our students, staff, and families continues to be a priority. In today’s update, I will address how we will communicate positive cases, cleaning and disinfecting protocols, how we monitor the ever-changing information from local and state officials, and what’s next. In addition, I have included a few of the frequently asked questions that are coming in as we move forward.

As previously shared, the District Reconnect Plan includes six steps for a return to in-person instruction at school based on health, safety, and equity.

Communicating Positive Cases
The District has a protocol in place for reporting positive cases of COVID-19 for both students and staff. You can read more about our health and safety procedures and protocols on our COVID-19 Safety Protocols web pages: Students and Families, Staff. The staff page includes Administrative Procedures and Protocols for the school district. In addition, we have developed a COVID-19 Dashboard where we will track positive cases by school once we move to Step 3 in the Reconnect Plan, and provide timely updates.

Cleaning and Disinfecting
Our custodial staff district-wide has been trained in all appropriate cleaning and disinfecting protocols for day-to-day cleaning and in the event of a positive case in a school or other district facility. Read more in the School and Classroom Health and Safety Protocols. Each custodian has a checklist of procedures to follow for the cleaning and disinfection of the schools and district facilities along with appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment.

How the District Monitors Information
I along with District leaders are part of weekly Zoom meetings held by the Snohomish Health District, OSPI, and the State Department of Health. I am also part of the northwest region school superintendent’s group which meets and confers remotely on a regular basis. We are also fortunate to have great local partners such as the City of Marysville who provide a weekly COVID report for the community. This report is posted on the COVID-19 Dashboard. As you know, the information is ever-changing. We pay close attention to the trends, scientific reports, and guidelines from each of these groups.

What’s Next
In the next update, I will share additional FAQs and explain options that will be offered to families as we transition to Step 3 and the plan to bring preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade students back in a hybrid model.

As we move from Step 2 to Step 3 of the Reconnect Plan, the District is developing specific plans for students in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. The FAQs linked HERE address some of the common questions received to-date and primarily focuses on grades K - 1. The Early Learning Center is developing a plan specific to the preschool campus which will look different than the plan for grades K - 1. The ELC will communicate directly with parents and guardians as we move through the Steps of the Reconnect Plan.

On a final note, the schools and district are doing our best to communicate with families including attendance and engagement notifications. Please do your best to receive each communication whether it is a phone call, text message, or email.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will get through this.
