Today marks day two of distance learning (online). As a reminder, with the Governor’s order to “Stay Home - Stay Healthy” and the closure of physical school buildings for the remainder of the school year, we have added more direct online instruction in addition to the learning enrichment activities. Our staff has identified the most essential skills, concepts, and content for each subject area so students will be prepared to continue to the next grade or course. Teachers are including the identified essential new learning in their instruction, reinforcing habits that support continued learning, and assess student learning. At the secondary level, instruction of essential new learning will allow students to earn credit for courses and prepare for graduation.

In addition, the district had prepared supplemental learning materials and family resources in all subject areas for students Preschool through 12th grade. These materials were also made available in printed form for grades Pre – 5. Updated supplemental materials are underway and will be available in digital and print format when ready. We continue to explore options for equitable delivery of educational services to all students, including distance learning options. The educational resources are not meant to be a substitute for direct classroom instruction but will help students practice their skills and learn independently during the closure.

Below are links to the pages where families and staff can find resources including new information to support Social-Emotional and Mental Health needs:

Regarding graduation requirements and graduation plans for high school seniors, our Teaching and Learning staff and high school principals are reviewing information coming from the State and collaborating on the next steps that will be shared with families in the near future.

If your elementary child is still in need of a Chromebook, or for any Chromebook related issues, email or call the Chromebook Support hotline at (360) 965-0202 or email chromebook-help@msvl.k12.wa.us.

As we move into this new essential online learning, we will likely need to adjust as we receive new guidance, and as we learn from our experiences. The plan for remote teaching/distance learning for students will continue through the end of the school year. We will continue to keep our families, staff, and community members updated but will do so on a less-frequent basis unless new information is timely or urgent. Also, please watch for periodic updates from Superintendent Thompson in the coming days.

Stay well and take good care. We are very proud of our students, families, and staff and know you are all doing your very best during these unique times.
