Welcome Back Letter and Important Information

Dear Families:

On behalf of the Marysville School District, I welcome you to the 2017 - 18 school year! This summer our team worked hard to spruce up facilities, review curriculum and instructional practices, and align our resources to support each student. With late news from the legislature on educational funding, allocating resources has been challenging this year.  What we do know is that additional funds to reduce class sizes in grades K – 3 will be a part of the budget, which is good for our students. We will continue to study the outcomes of state funding and will remain focused on meeting the needs of our students.

Developing strong, purposeful, and lasting relationships with our families is a priority of mine – one I seek to encourage across our entire district. We know we cannot do this important work alone. You are your child’s first teacher, and we join you in in their educational journey the day they arrive in our classrooms. The Marysville School District has a rich tradition of parent and community involvement in numerous areas, including partnerships with our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), Parent Teacher Student Associations, (PTSAs), and our many community partners who work by our side in support of our youth. Each of our partners embodies the selfless, democratic spirit of supporting and improving our schools so every student can thrive. We thank them deeply for their support.

Getting your child to school every day, well rested, fed, and ready to learn is a key role for each parent. Some can take it further by providing input to help with building and district reform efforts, joining a district committee, or by taking it even further by volunteering to help their child’s teacher with a wide variety of tasks or participating in PTSA. In whatever ways you are able to join with us – we welcome you.

Please review the below documents carefully. You will find an application for free and reduced meals, key calendar dates and the bell schedule for the coming year. Note: School start times have changed and will be 15 minutes earlier than last year. The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6. Please watch for the annual Back to School Calendar to arrive in your mail. The calendar will provide district-wide information and key dates. Bus schedules will be published in the local paper and posted on the district website at www.msd25.org later in August.

Thank you for choosing our district, and thank you in advance for finding a way to partner with us. We realize our lives and experiences are all very different from one another, and we welcome your unique perspectives, ideas, and experiences. The Marysville School District is proud of its many accomplishments, and is committed to a relentless focus on improving the lives and learning of each child. Thank you for standing by our side.

With deep respect,

Becky J. Berg, Ed.D. Superintendent
