Snohomish County Human Rights Commission Educator Award
On December 10th, 1948, 71 years ago tomorrow, the United Nations published the first Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This seminal document became the framework for nearly a century of work across the globe advancing human rights for all people and guides the work of the Snohomish County Human Rights Commission. On Sunday, December 9th, the Snohomish County Human Rights Commission recognized the Marysville School District Equity, Diversity, and Indigenous Education department with the 2019 Educators Award. This award is given to the individual or group of educators in "recognition for their contribution to making our county a place that honors the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of our human family." The Equity, Diversity, and Indigenous Education Department works tirelessly to make our schools more inclusive and welcoming for all families. From holding multicultural events and celebrations to their advocacy for underserved families to providing professional development on culturally responsive practices for staff, they consistently go above and beyond to serve students and families. We could not be more proud of them for their work and the recognition so well deserved by the Commission.
