Recently, students from Cedarcrest and Marysville Middle Schools attended La Chispa (“The Spark”), a bilingual leadership conference for middle school students from around the State of Washington. The students who attended started off learning about the benefits of being bilingual. They later broke into small groups and reflected on the importance of education, academic achievement, and involvement at school. After lunch, the students enjoyed dancing and getting to know each other. The day ended with an friend-a-thon where students walked laps while introducing themselves to each other.

This conference was an amazing experience for our Hispanic students to spend time together, learn skills they can apply in school, and ways they can support each other to be successful.

This opportunity was made possible with grant funds for our Hispanic students and the coordination of our Categorical Programs department. Thanks to our families and staff who supported and encouraged our Hispanic students to attend this conference.
